Woodlands Restaurant, which specializes in vegetarian South Indian cuisine, has long been a destination for afficionados of Indian culture and cuisine.  Named one of the Best Bargain Restaurants in the area by Washingtonian Magazine, Woodlands also gets 'two thumbs up'  reviews from local food critics (see here). 

Best day to go:  Sunday lunch when you can sample vegetarian dishes, sauces, snacks and deserts from a two table buffet joined by South Indians from all over the region.  Don't forget to write your name and number of people in your party into the book when you arrive -- this efficient system frees staff to seat, bus and clear tables as quickly as possible.
